A Portal into the Past

The Lines and Colors blog (one of my faves) has a post about imposing 18th century paintings onto Google Street View images.

The links to the originals don't seem to be working (or maybe you have be a member of reddit?) but the examples on the blog post are intriguing and definitely worth a look!

Google street view is itself fun to play around in. You can land on a street in Paris or Venice or Lafayette and look around: maps.google.com

Type in a location, then when the map comes up, click and hold on the yellow figure (bottom right), move it to the location,  and release. I've used this, for example, to check out a hotel's surroundings and to see what a storefront looks like.
